Who will Newcastle United sign this summer? Well that’s a fascinating question and one every Magpie will be asking themselves as the curtain prepares to close on a mixed Premier League campaign.
The St James’s Park outfit went 15 Premier League fixtures without a win this season, resulting in genuine threats of relegation.
But Eddie Howe, who replaced Steve Bruce as Newcastle manager in October, soon steadied the ship and with a little help from Saudi Public Investment Fund, United’s new owners, their January business has helped them move 12th in the standings.
Monday’s 2-0 victory over Arsenal has whet the appetite for victory over a big dog in English football and the fans in the North East will be hoping for many more scalps next season, having reinforced their squad a lot more over the coming months.
It’s guaranteed to be an exciting summer window for Newcastle – and one player who wants to come is Renan Lodi.
Football Transfers reported in April that Howe – who wanted the player in January – are still keen on the £42 million-rated Atletico Madrid left-back.
And Globo in Brazil have now reported that the 24-year-old would be interested in the idea of playing for Newcastle next season and beyond.
The report adds the Bruno Guimaraes factor, with Lodi and the new Magpies hero both beginning their careers with Brazilian outfit Athletico Paranaense.
Lodi, labelled a hero during Atletico’s Champions League victory over Manchester United earlier in 2022, is an excellent defender and it’ll be fascinating to see if Howe genuinely does bring him to England.
He’ll be well aware of Bruno’s success at St James’s Park and who can blame him for wanting to be part of what is becoming a very exciting project?
