There’s a new dawn at Newcastle United and now the big question is – who will lead it?
Saudi Public Investment Fund completed their takeover at Newcastle on Thursday afternoon, a project that was four years in the making.
But already, Steve Bruce, the Magpies’ current boss, is said to be on thin ice.
Even before the takeover, a lot of fans at St James’s Park wanted a new manager in charge and they might not get their wish.
That’s because if Newcastle are to heavily invest in transforming the personnel on the field, the board will want a dugout capable of maximising the playing staff.
A number of big names have been linked already but one is Steven Gerrard, Rangers’ current head coach.
And The Daily Mail has reported that the 41-year-old is ‘intrigued’ by the role, with the report adding that this is likely to be Gerrard’s final season at Ibrox.
Good appointment?
Yes, hiring the Rangers boss would be a fine appointment.
Gerrard is one of the best young British coaches working in football and the fact that he has an Invincible season under his belt, this early in his career, is testament to his potential as a manger.
Last term, the Gers ruined Celtic’s 10-in-a-row bid as Rangers went through the whole campaign undefeated, cruising to a Premiership title in the process.
The Liverpool legend is destined for bigger and better things and if Newcastle do come knocking, it’s such a difficult job to turn down.
