Aston Villa and Newcastle United are reportedly battling over the signature for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yves Bissouma.

According to The Daily Mail, mega-rich Newcastle are keen on the midfielder to boost their chances of staying in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports claimed last week that Aston Villa are also keen on the Mali international, who is away on Africa Cup of Nations duty right now.

And both Premier League outfits will be boosted by what The Telegraph has just reported.

According to The Telegraph, Bissouma, whose Seagulls contract expires in the summer of 2023, has shown no indication that he’s going to sign a new contract with Albion.

Potential boost?

In a word, yes.

Because if Bissouma decides that he’s not signing a new deal then with a £40 million valuation right now, Brighton must offload him as soon as possible to keep their asset valuable.

Therefore, if Aston Villa or Newcastle genuinely want the player, this would be an ideal time to test the Seagulls’.

Even if they value him at £40 million, that isn’t a guarantee that they’ll receive that fee – or anywhere close to it.

With Marvelous Nakamba sidelined and Newcastle battling for their Premier League lives, Villa and the Magpies genuinely do need a figure like this.

Problem is, the likes of Arsenal have also been tentatively linked, though their imminent move for Arthur Melo ought to mean that they aren’t serious candidates.
