Ivan Rakitic to Tottenham Hotspur is a transfer that was mooted way back in April.

Mundo Deportivo reported back then that Spurs were interested in signing the Barcelona midfielder, who has been linked with a move away from Camp Nou.

The trail went cold for a few months and then Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal were said to have entered the race.

But speculation about the Croatia international joining Jose Mourinho’s side looks set for a resurgence.

This time, Mundo Deportivo is reporting that the 32-year-old – who has won four Primera Liga titles in Spain – would be open to the idea of joining the Lilywhites and playing under the Portuguese manager.

The report adds that Rakitic’s former club Sevilla are also in the reckoning.

Clearly the player has some level of sentiment regarding Sevilla, where he spent three years, and they’ll have Champions League football next term after winning the Europa League again.

Tottenham won’t be rubbing shoulders with Europe’s elite, but this could be Rakitic’s last chance to test himself in the Premier League, if he’s bothered by that, and therefore a switch to North London can’t be ruled out.

If this report is accurate, the former Schalke playmaker is game to join Mourinho’s side so it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out.
