The Evening Standard report that Yaya Toure is set to hold talks with Tottenham over a full-time position on the Spurs coaching staff. He has been doing his coaching badges, while working with the club’s Under-18’s.
Toure, 38, is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s best-ever midfielders after an eight-year spell at Manchester City. Clocking up 316 games for City, he scored 79 goals and won three Premier League titles.
Since then, he has retired and held coaching positions in Ukraine and Russia – before moving to Spurs where he has been working with the 18’s over the last few months, under the watchful eye of Chris Powell and more.
Toure, who is set to obtain his UEFA A License, is said to have impressed the Spurs coaching staff and is eager to stay on at Spurs on a full-time basis. Whether he will be given a more senior role in time, remains to be seen.
Antonio Conte has a close-knit group around him, but has included Ryan Mason as a first-team coach. Toure will now hold talks over a full-time Under-18 position – but with a view to progressing into a senior role.
Toure to Tottenham: Iconic figure will only help Spurs progress
Toure is a huge name in recent Premier League folklore. One of the best, and having that winning mentality at Hotspur Way is only going to firstly, get the best out of academy – and then, improve the first-team stars.
Indeed, Spurs lack a goalscoring midfielder at the moment with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur playing defensively. Having Toure on side might eventually help Spurs increase their output from midfield.
