Jean-Pierre Nsamé has moved closer to joining Rangers this summer, according to a report in the striker’s native Cameroon.

Kick442 claims Nsamé impressed Steven Gerrard’s side while playing against them for BSC Young Boys last season, and has already spoken with the Rangers manager.

And the website adds that the Gers are willing to pay €4.2 million (around £3.8m) to sign the 27-year-old.

Nsamé scored 36 goals in 41 games for Young Boys throughout the 2019/20 campaign and has also been linked by Kick442 to Premier League sides Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and West Ham United, among others.

Rangers, though, could have the most pressing need for a new centre-forward should Alfredo Morelos depart in the summer transfer window.

Rangers are currently without Jermain Defoe to a hamstring injury, while Morelos is said to have interest from the French club Lille, who sold their Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen to Napoli on Friday.

6ft 2 Nsamé still has three years to run on his contract in Bern, where he arrived from Servette FC in 2017.
