According to Eurosport, Tottenham are now putting forward a strong proposal to sign Antonio Rudiger, amid interest from Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, this would be quite the move from Tottenham.

Eurosport believe sources close to Rudiger’s situation feel he is now almost certain to leave Chelsea, with his contract set to expire in June.

The £100,000-a-week man is pondering options from abroad, while Eurosport add that Liverpool are also interested in the £34m man.

Thomas Tuchel is extremely eager for the 49-cap Germany international to stay at Stamford Bridge, but it now seems as if Chelsea could lose him.

Rudiger has become one of the best centre-backs in Europe since Tuchel took over the Blues, and it would be a bitter blow for Chelsea to lose him.

In our view, Rudiger would be crazy to join Liverpool over Tottenham, given the depth of Jürgen Klopp’s centre-back department.

The Reds have Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez to choose from for just two positions.

Klopp also has Nat Phillips as a fifth option.

In Tottenham’s case, Antonio Conte has the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Joe Rodon and Cristian Romero.

Yes, Spurs also have four centre-backs, but players like Sanchez and Rodon are yet to prove themselves, whereas all of Liverpool’s options are world class defenders.

Rudiger would risk tarnishing his Chelsea legacy if he joined their London rivals, but in terms of his career, it would be a smart move.
