According to Mundo Deportivo, Kieran Trippier could now be sold by Atlético Madrid due to Brexit regulations, amid interest from Everton.
What’s the story?
Well, the report states that Atlético Madrid would have more Non-EU players than they’re allowed to own after June 30th.
After that date, Trippier – and other Englishmen – will become Non-EU players as Brexit comes into effect.
In some divisions – including La Liga – clubs aren’t allowed to have an unlimited amount of these players.
Atlético Madrid would go over their allowance once June 30th has come and gone, as Felipe and Renan Lodi are also Non-EU players.
Mundo Deportivo add that Diego Simeone’s side are hoping the rule will be changed, to benefit players signed before the Brexit agreement.
How much would Kieran Trippier cost?
If the worst case scenario comes true for Atlético Madrid and they have to offload Trippier, it doesn’t sound like he’ll come cheap.
Mundo Deportivo reveal that Manchester United submitted a £10 million bid for the 30-year-old, and it’s been rejected.
The Spanish champions are hoping to receive €40 million (£34 million) for their right-back, who enjoyed an excellent season.
In our view, Everton would be mad to pay that much for Trippier.
It was The Athletic who claimed that the Toffees are keen, and also revealed that Trippier would like a move back to the Premier League.
However, spending £34 million on a 30-year-old right-back would be brainless from Marcel Brands, so we doubt a deal will happen.
