According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan have reached an agreement with Sven Botman, despite interest from Newcastle and Tottenham.

What’s the story?

Well, Newcastle and Botman were involved in a very public transfer saga in January, as the Magpies looked to spend their newfound riches.

Amanda Staveley even discussed the Dutchman in a recent interview with The Athletic, where the 48-year-old claimed that Botman was keen on a move to Tyneside.

Elsewhere, it was the Daily Star who revealed that Tottenham want to sign the 22-year-old Lille defender.

Now, however, both Premier League sides could miss out, as AC Milan have struck a deal with Botman.

Gazzetta dello Sport believe the Italian giants have convinced Botman to join, and now, they will need to agree a fee with Lille.

The French champions are said to value their No.4 at €40m (£33m).

Newcastle or Tottenham can still sign Sven Botman

In our view, this isn’t over yet.

Staveley revealed that Botman remains interested in a move to Newcastle, so the Magpies are technically at the same stage as AC Milan.

The Athletic quote her as saying: “Some desperately wanted to come to us, like Sven (Botman), who still does very much and has talked very openly about that.”

In truth, Newcastle hold an advantage, as they have greater financial power than AC Milan at the moment following the Saudi Arabian takeover.

Spurs can also – presumably – afford to meet the £34m asking price, so they also cannot be ruled out of this transfer race just yet.

The financial impacts of COVID-19 hit hard for most, except Premier League clubs who continued to receive vast amounts of TV cash.

Therefore, we wouldn’t be surprised to see AC Milan get blown out of the water in this transfer battle.

Keep an eye on this saga, as anything could happen.
