Steven Fletcher is desperate to secure a move to Celtic this summer, according to a report.

The Daily Record reported earlier this week that Hoops boss Neil Lennon was in talks with the 33-year-old free agent after being released by Sheffield Wednesday.

Celtic already have a bunch of strikers but, with Lennon’s side going for a historic 10 Premiership titles in a row, there’s no room for the Bhoys to rest on their laurels, especially after Rangers snapped up Kemar Roofe.

Fletcher would provide that bit of experience and a brilliant plan-b to Odsonne Edouard.

And according to The Scottish Sun, the Scotland international would ‘jump at the chance’ to sign up for Lennon’s project in Parkhead.

The report adds that Fletcher – who earned £32,000 per week with the Owls last season – would even accept less money to play in Glasgow than he could get by staying down South.

At this stage of his career, it might be about trophies rather than money for the big forward.

Coming into the twilight of his playing days, the only thing he’s won was a Scottish League Cup with Hibernian in 2007 and he might well want something more to look back on when all is said and done.

And if he joins Celtic, there’s a genuine chance that he’ll have a Premiership winners medal come May – and the pride in having played a part in history.
