Idrissa Gueye‘s return to Everton appears to have stalled.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Toffees had began looking at alternative targets to the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, including Mohamed Camara.

Everton had looked poised to re-sign their former player from the French capital, three years after selling him for £30 million.

However, 90 Min last night reported that although Gueye had agreed a wage cut on his £100,000-a-week salary to return to Goodison Park, the Premier League outfit and PSG have reached an impasse with regards to a transfer fee.

The report adds that Gueye is seeking compensation from the Ligue 1 champions who want Everton to ‘contribute’ to that package, a sticking point that is proving to be quite the stumbling block.

Honestly, the Blues might be better off looking at Camara.

As talented as Gueye is, this is a player who turns 33 next month and despite being proven in the Premier League, Frank Lampard could and probably should be looking at younger models.

Remember, Everton survived relegation last season by the skin of their teeth.

This time around, it’s massively important that Lampard has as good a squad as possible and, well, surely there are better options than Gueye at this point.
