Rangers’ £3.6 million deal for Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu is in doubt due to concerns over the player’s fitness, according to Les 11Amienois.
If Thursday’s Europa League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen is anything to go by, Steven Gerrard needs an injection of quality and energy in midfield if the Glasgow giants are to progress on the continental stage.
Ryan Jack and Steven Davis barely laid a glove on a Leverkusen side full of class, composure and quality.
Copa America winner Charles Aranguiz, Real Madrid loanee Exequial Palacios and the exceptional Kai Havertz pulled the strings brilliantly during a 1-0 win that, in truth, flattered a clearly inferior Rangers side.
But, despite agreeing a £3.6 million fee and a four-year contract with the dynamic Zungu, the Ligue 1 enforcer is still conspicuous by his absence at Ibrox (L’Equipe).
And reports from France have shed some light on a deal which, two weeks ago, looked all-but done.

Les 11Amienois claim that concerns over Zungu’s ‘physical condition’ have Rangers suffering from a nasty case of cold feet.
The South African international completed 90 minutes in just six of his 21 Ligue 1 appearances in 2019/20 as Amiens were relegated from the top flight.
Given that Zungu would become one of Rangers’ most expensive signings at nearly £4 million, there can be no room for risk here.
