According to the Chronicle, Adam Armstrong would be keen on a return to Newcastle if his former side make a move to re-sign him.

The Blackburn striker is enjoying a fine season in the Championship with Tony Mowbray’s side, and appears to finally be fulfilling his potential.

Armstrong has netted an eye-catching 18 goals across all competitions for Rovers this term, with 17 of those coming in the Championship.

Interestingly, he is currently outscoring Lionel Messi this term – the Argentina international has 17 goals in all competitions for Barcelona.

The Chronicle add that Armstrong would be hugely motivated to make things work at St James’ Park this time around, if the opportunity presents itself.

Sadly, the 23-year-old was never really given a chance to shine at Newcastle, before being sold to Blackburn.

Armstrong made just 21 first-team appearances for the Magpies, with the majority of those coming as a substitute.

He was also shipped out on loan four times.

The West Denton-born forward spent time with Coventry, Barnsley, Bolton and Blackburn, with the latter eventually signing him on a permanent basis.

The Chronicle say that Armstrong retains an excellent relationship with those at executive level at St James’ Park.

It’s also said by the Chronicle that some staff members didn’t agree with the decision to sell the striker for £2 million.

However, it was Rafa Benitez who sanctioned the sale, as he had the final say.
