According to the Evening Standard, Andros Townsend won’t be signing a new contract with Crystal Palace, amid interest from Newcastle.
What’s the story?
Well, the Evening Standard believe Townsend was expected to sign a new deal at Selhurst Park.
However, after he took to Twitter as part of a Q&A to share what he’s looking for in his new club, it now looks like he’ll be leaving SE25.
That is despite the fact he has a good relationship with Patrick Vieira.
The pair worked together on ITV during EURO 2020, but their relationship doesn’t seem to have convinced Vieira to hand him fresh terms.
Townsend was hopeful of staying at Crystal Palace.
The 29-year-old was a key player for the Eagles last term, making 25 Premier League starts.
Newcastle to swoop in?

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle wanted to sign Townsend if he became a free agent this summer.
In that respect, this news will surely turn Steve Bruce’s head.
The 13-cap England international scored four goals and provided two assists in 13 games for the Magpies during the 2015/16 campaign.

However, relegation under Steve McClaren saw his spell on Tyneside end prematurely.
Townsend certainly has unfinished business at Newcastle, and he could now return after five years away from St James’ Park.
