According to Sport, Barcelona could now sell Memphis Depay to Newcastle after the World Cup is over.
Newcastle could land Memphis Depay
Well, this would be quite the signing for Eddie Howe at St James’ Park.
Sport believe Barcelona and Depay are hoping to use the World Cup in Qatar as a platform to increase his value, ahead of a sale in January.
Xavi is keen to offload the Netherlands international this winter as he risks losing his No.14 for nothing in July, when the Dutchman officially becomes a free agent.
The Spanish news outlet interestingly state that, instead of waiting for Depay to hit free agency, Newcastle could secure his services in January due to the financial issues of Barcelona.

As things stand, the Spanish giants need to balance the books amid financial issues, and with Newcastle among the richest clubs on the planet nowadays, the Magpies are certainly capable of submitting an attractive offer.
Depay has only made three appearances for Barcelona this season after being replaced by Robert Lewandowski in Catalonia, scoring one goal.
Memphis Depay surely won’t cost Newcastle much
As you can see, Barcelona are not in the strongest negotiating position when it comes to Depay.
The 28-year-old is highly unlikely to sign a new contract after being replaced, so it will be now or never for Barcelona to receive some much-needed cash from his sale in January.
Therefore, Newcastle hold all the cards, and just like the £12m deal for Kieran Trippier, Howe could be in store for another bargain with the price for Depay unlikely to be much higher than that figure – in our view at least.
Be sure to keep an eye on this saga, as the Magpies could soon have Depay and Alexander Isak playing ahead of Bruno Guimaraes – their side is certainly starting to take shape.
