Spanish newspaper La Razon claim Diego Carlos could be tempted by a move to Newcastle United in the summer window – if the Toon reignite their January interest. The Toon had a £46million bid rejected last month.
Carlos, 28, has been a revelation at Sevilla since joining the club in the summer of 2019. Already clocking up 122 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga side, he has established himself as a regular for Brazil.
Newcastle did end up bringing a centre-back to the club in the January window – in the form of Toon fan Dan Burn. But moves for Sven Botman and Carlos fell through. Newcastle wanted to pay £42million up front.
But all might not be lost. Indeed, La Razon report that Newcastle could re-enter the market for Carlos in the summer. It is claimed that the player might be tempted by a summer switch to the Toon – of course, they stay up.
Carlos tempted by Newcastle switch: Will Toon move in summer?
Newcastle could still do with a centre-back. Captain Jamaal Lascelles was sensational for the Toon on Tuesday night, as Newcastle secured a stunning 3-1 win over Everton. But improvement is still a necessity.
The signing of Dan Burn is a good one. It gives Newcastle better options from the bench perhaps, a good squad player. But the Toon also need a big-name signing at centre-back – like a Carlos, a Botman or someone else.
