It was reported on midweek that Giovani Lo Celso was set to leave Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentina international is supposed to have joined Villarreal on a half-season loan on deadline day.

However, a report from Marca this afternoon revealed that it wasn’t entirely confirmed yet.

The Spanish report claims that Lo Celso – who cost £27 million in 2020 – still hadn’t even undergone a medical with Unai Emery’s outfit, but that it would be completed today.

The report adds that the 27-year-old would join up with his new teammates tomorrow, providing the medical is passed successfully.

Writing on the wall

The writing had looked on the wall for Lo Celso for quite a while.

Even when he wasn’t injured, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte didn’t seem to rate him all that highly.

Prior to the winter break, Conte left him out of the squad and cited fitness concerns.

But the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder – who played under Emery in France – took to Twitter to clarify that he was completely fit to participate.

That would’ve ruined any trust that Conte had in the Mauricio Pochettino-signed player and probably the beginning of the end.

It appears as if a transfer to Villarreal is all but confirmed after the Spanish outfit posted a Twitter video of him being ready to be unveiled this afternoon.
