It’s been a rotten season for Arsenal so far – but the same applies to one of their loan players.

Lucas Torreira barely kicked a ball for the Gunners during Project Restart and he’d have been hoping to turn over a new leaf with his loan to Atletico Madrid in October.

But things just haven’t worked out for the Uruguay international in Spain just yet and if rumours from Italy true, they never will.

Torreira, a £27 million signing by Arsenal in 2018, has managed only 182 minutes of league football under Diego Simeone over the past two months.

And according to Tuttomercatoweb, Simeone is ready to throw in the towel and terminate his loan agreement from Arsenal in January.

The report adds that Italian outfit Torino – also heavily linked in the summer – are thinking about making a second move for the 24-year-old next month.

If this is true, it’s bad news for the North Londoners.

Money is tight at the Emirates Stadium and they would’ve picked up around £25 million if Atletico activated their purchase option next summer.

But if they can’t offload the tenacious midfielder then that’s just another piece of deadwood that Arsenal can’t get shot of, like Shkodran Mustafi and Mesut Ozil.
