According to a report from the Sun, Felipe Anderson is open to a move away from West Ham United this summer.

The Brazilian was an instant hit among Hammers faithful when he made a £41.5 million move from Lazio in 2018 (BBC). Anderson scored 10 times and provided five assists in his first year at West Ham, but his performances last term were truly underwhelming.

The former Lazio man scored just one goal all season for the Hammers. Manuel Pellegrini played him regularly in the first half of the campaign but, since his departure, the Brazilian has been pushed to the side.

David Moyes, since he took over from Pellegrini, handed just four starts to Anderson last season. That has raised speculation over his future and, if the report is to be believed, he is prepared to move if he is no longer in the manager’s plans.

Should West Ham sell Anderson?

It really is tricky for West Ham with regards to Anderson. Everybody knows that the Brazilian can win games on his own if he is used properly but, if Moyes really has no place for him, the club will be forced to sell.

However, West Ham will certainly make a loss on what they paid for him two years ago. The report claims that Lazio are open to re-signing him this summer. However they will not pay more than half of what they received for him in 2018.

That is a £20 million hit for West Ham in a period where they cannot afford to make big losses. The current financial climate has made things extremely difficult for clubs and the Hammers are no different.

Anderson has just two years left on his contract and his value will plummet this time next year, even if he has a good campaign in the upcoming Premier League season.

West Ham need to make a decision over Anderson’s future in the coming days. Keeping hold of him isn’t really a bad idea on the footballing front but, financially, they might have a serious problem if they get things wrong this summer.
