It seems like there’s a bit of confusion over Arsenal’s reported pursuit of Thomas Partey.

The Atletico Madrid powerhouse has been linked with a move to Arsenal since way back in March.

But speculation blows hot and cold and according to The Express, Atletico would be prepared to swap their defensive midfielder for a Gunners player.

With the Ghana international boasting a £44.5 million price-tag, this would suit the North Londoners.

But Goal.com have now reported that the Spanish giants aren’t keen on a player exchange and want every penny of his reported release clause.

The report adds that the player himself is definitely keen to join Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal have just signed Gabriel Magalhaes in a £27 million deal and with the Emirates Stadium side losing millions via their empty stadium, it remains to be seen if another big-money deal will be sanctioned by the club this summer.

It seems unlikely and it’s not only because Partey would cost a bomb.

Granit Xhaka has looked a transformed player under Arteta, having nearly been sold by Unai Emery following a tumultuous stint under the club’s former manager last season.

And with Swiss star’s standard of performance as of late, particularly from June onwards, there isn’t the same urgency to spend big on Partey as there might’ve been when the speculation first arose, way back in March.
