Arsenal are seemingly on the brink of losing Mesut Ozil, but there’s another long-serving player who might also be leaving North London.
All the talk over the past 24 hours has centered around Ozil quitting the Emirates Stadium club, six months in advance of the end of contract.
But Matt Macey – who also joined Arsenal in 2013 – looks like he may also be getting a new club.
According to The Athletic, the 26-year-old is due to have a medical with Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian tonight.
The report adds that it would be a permanent move away from Arsenal for Macey, who has never made a Premier League appearance for the club, but made his Europa League debut in 2017.
Macey stands at 6’7 and former Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sung his praises [Arsenal.com] after keeping a clean sheet against Red Star Belgrade over three years ago on his European bow.
This could’ve been a big season for Macey at Arsenal, but the writing was on the wall back in September.
When Emiliano Martinez was sold to Aston Villa, Mikel Arteta could’ve promoted the big man to be Bernd Leno’s second-in-command.
But Iceland international Alex Runarsson was then signed to replace Martinez in what was a pretty clear indication that Macey had no future under Arteta at Arsenal.
