Giovani Lo Celso is ‘very close’ to leaving Tottenham Hotspur.
That’s what Calciomercato in Italy reported on Wednesday evening.
The Tottenham midfielder has been linked with Italian outfits Lazio and Napoli in recent weeks.
However, Lo Celso has his heart set on a return to Villarreal, Calciomercato explains.
The Argentina international left Spurs to join Unai Emery’s outfit during the second half of the 2021-22 campaign, helping them to a Champions League semi-final.
And Lo Celso, signed by Mauricio Pochettino originally, looks set to return to Spain it would seem.
The writing has been on the wall for this player for a while.
Antonio Conte omitted him from Tottenham’s pre-season friendlies, illustrating that the Italian coach has made his mind up about the South American.
Earlier in the summer, it was reported that the Lilywhites’ manager felt that Lo Celso was too weak to succeed in the Premier League.
It clearly hasn’t worked out in North London for the 26-year-old but he remains a very good footballer and one who will more than likely thrive under the former Arsenal manager in Spain once again.
The truth is that Conte just has zero need for him and a permanent departure is definitely best for both parties.
