Haris Belkebla is intrigued by the prospect of joining Celtic this summer, with La Buteur linking the Scottish Premiership champions with an Algerian international.

It is certainly a good time to be a fan of the Fennec Foxes.

Algeria not only lifted the African Cup of Nations title in 2019, they also have perhaps the most exciting crop of footballers on the continent, including Riyad Mahrez, Said Benrahma, Ismael Bennacer and Youcef Atal.

Belkebla might have missed out on that AFCON triumph (read up on why if you want a laugh) but the hard-working midfielder looks set to play a big role for his nation in the years to come.

And a move to one of Britain’s biggest clubs will do his burgeoning reputation no harm whatsoever.

Reports in his homeland suggest that Belkebla, after a fine Ligue 1 campaign with Brest, is keen on the idea of proving himself outside of France for the very first time.

Celtic will not only offer him exposure to European football, but also the chance to join a club who have provided a stepping stone for some of the biggest untapped talents on the continent, from Virgil Van Dijk to Odsonne Edouard and Moussa Dembele.

As much an athlete as he is a footballer, few players in Ligue 1 cover as much ground per 90 minutes as the Duracell-powered Belkebla.

It is that sort of attitude which should make him an immediate fans favourite at Parkhead.

Interestingly, Old Firm rivals Rangers have also been linked, though Brest’s sporting director Gregory Lorenzi is determined to hang onto a key player (L’Equipe).
