Football London report that both Antonio Conte and Ivan Perisic were ‘frustrated’ by Tottenham man Ryan Sessegnon on Sunday against Nottingham Forest – when he failed to find Harry Kane in the penalty area, during the 2-0 win.

Tottenham secured a third win in four and took their tally to 10 points from a possible 12 against Forest. A second clean sheet, after a 1-0 win over Wolves. Kane got both goals, scoring one in either half as Spurs edged to a victory.

Sessegnon, 22, was introduced as a replacement for Perisic in the final 15 minutes. The £25million Tottenham man was set free on the left flank at one point, with Spurs two against one. All he had to do was find Kane in the penalty area.

However, and perhaps inexplicably, he held on to the ball and when eventually crossing, his pass was blocked. Luckily for Sessegnon, Richarlison recovered the ball and his gorgeous delivery was headed into the back of the net by Kane.

But Sessegnon’s decision making and inability to find Kane left both Conte and Perisic ‘frustrated’ on the Tottenham bench. Conte was joined by Perisic in having their arms ‘outstretched’, with Perisic up from the bench in reaction.

Conte and Perisic frustrated by Sessegnon against Forest

Sessegnon has been overtaken by Perisic, there is no doubt about it. Indeed, Perisic’s experience and his natural position in being a winger would certainly have seen the Croat find Kane. Perisic has started the last two league games.

Whether Perisic continues to start against West Ham on Wednesday night remains to be seen. Perisic, who turns 34 in February 2022, might not be able to start games back to back. So it might see Sessegnon start once again.

Conte has spoken about his need to rotate players and keep them fresh in order to keep Tottenham challenging on all fronts. But the memory of Sessegnon’s failure to find Kane – if still in Conte’s memory – could have an impact.
