The Independent have published a worrying report about Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum.
The Netherlands international has played a huge role in the Reds’ success under Jurgen Klopp over the past two years.
In May of 2019, Wijnaldum scored twice as Liverpool came from three goals down to beat Barcelona 4-0 en route to winning a sixth Champions League title.
And last season, the former Newcastle star, a £25 million signing in 2016, started 35 out of a possible 38 league games as Klopp’s side won the Premier League for the first time in their history.
But with less than one year left on his contract, there is concern over whether Liverpool will be able to keep the 29-year-old.
And according to The Independent, Wijnaldum could quit the Anfield club.
The report claims that the player may be open to a ‘change of scenery’ and added that Barcelona – now under Ronald Koeman, who coached Wijnaldum at international level – could tie him down to a pre-contract agreement in January.
Klopp will be desperate to keep the player that he called ‘the perfect midfielder‘ last season, but it remains to be seen if a contract renewal can tempt the player at this stage.
