Rangers defender Calvin Bassey is open to a move to Aston Villa and reunite with Steven Gerrard, according to Sky Sports.

Sky Sports have reported that Villa are among a number of Premier League clubs who have made enquires about signing Bassey from Rangers in the summer transfer window.

Rangers will reportedly look for more than £25 million to even discuss a transfer deal, although they do not want to sell him.

Villa manager Gerrard worked with Bassey, who can play as a central defender or as a left-back, and is a big admirer of the Nigeria international, according to the report.

Sky Sports have added that although Bassey is ‘settled at Ibrox’, the 22-year-old is open to speaking to Villa about a potential move to the Premier League.

Aston Villa unlikely to pay £25m+ for Rangers defender Calvin Bassey

In our view, if Rangers do not sell Calvin Bassey for less than £25 million, then a transfer to Aston Villa is not going to happen.

We do not think that Villa will pay that much money for a 22-year-old playing in the Scottish Premiership.

Yes, he is a very good player who did well in the Europa League this season, but Bassey is still learning his trade and is very young.

Now, we do think that Bassey would make Villa better at the back, especially as he can play as a centre-back or as a left-back.

Described as “absolutely sensational” by former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur player Jason Cundy on talkSPORT for his performance against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final this month, Bassey can only get better and improve in the coming years.

The Rangers no. 3 made 26 appearances in the Scottish Premiership and played 14 games in the Europa League this season.
