According to Il Giorno, Newcastle have made Robin Gosens a significant contract offer, which he’s currently considering during rehabilitation.
What’s the story?
Well, the 27-year-old is currently out with a hamstring injury, giving him plenty of time to think about a move to Newcastle.
Il Giorno believe the Magpies have offered Gosens a three-year deal worth €12m-a-year (£10m) in total, which equates to £192,307-a-week.
That would obliterate Newcastle’s wage structure – their highest earner at the moment is Kieran Trippier on £100,000-a-week (The Times).
Il Giorno add that the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia are willing to invest €200m (£167m) in this window, so a move for Gosens should be financially doable.
It is said that Newcastle have not actually been in touch with Atalanta yet, but preferred to go straight to the player himself with a huge contract offer.
Il Giorno also claim that Atalanta value the 13-cap Germany international at €30m (£25m).
Will Newcastle land Robin Gosens?

It seems money isn’t everything to Gosens, which could be an issue for Newcastle.
Il Giorno believe the German is sceptical about a move to St James’ Park, and is unwilling to give up Champions League football to join relegation contenders.
Even if the Magpies survive this season, the winger – who can also play at left-back – is worried about how long it will take him to return to playing in Europe.
Atalanta do not need to sell Gosens, although they’d be willing to part with their No.8 if an irresistible offer arrived from Newcastle.

By the sounds of it, Newcastle will find it difficult to bring Gosens to Tyneside.
However, the fact he’s considering the offer and did not reject it outright is somewhat encouraging, at least.
Keep an eye on this saga, as Gosens could soon become Newcastle’s third signing under Eddie Howe if he accepts the lucrative contract offer.
