Well, it’s looking pretty unlikely that Georginio Wijnaldum will be staying at Liverpool.
The Liverpool midfielder is out of contract at Anfield as soon as June and with very little encouraging news regarding an extension, Wijnaldum looks set to quit the Merseyside club.
The former Newcastle United star, a £25 million signing in 2016, has been a huge player for Jurgen Klopp these past few years, helping the club to Champions League and Premier League success since 2019.
Some Liverpool fans will be gutted to see him leave but it must be said that it does look very much like that’s going to happen.
Wijnaldum has had an offer from the Reds, but The Echo has reported on Friday that Michael Edwards has ‘no intention’ of offering improved terms.
The report adds that the proposal has already ‘effectively expired’, meaning at this point there is now no offer on the table for Wijnaldum to stay at Anfield.
It seems like his representatives weren’t happy with the original offer and with Barcelona – the club most linked to signing him – heavily in debt, Wijnaldum may really not have a lot of bigger opportunities than Liverpool come this summer.
