The Athletic claims Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is set to undergo a medical in Ecuador ahead of a move to Newcastle. It comes after reports from Brazil said Lyon had accepted a Toon bid.
Bruno, 24, has enjoyed a superb couple of seasons at Lyon since his move from Atletico Paranense. In those two years, Bruno has clocked up 71 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit in their midfield.
Considered one of the best in his position in French football, Newcastle have made their move. Globo Esporte report that a fee of £33.5million has been accepted by Lyon, from Newcastle. Arsenal are also being linked.
Now, the latest report from The Athletic states a medical has been scheduled in South America, namely Ecuador – with Bruno currently with the Brazil national team. The two countries play on Thursday, at 9pm.
The player himself had been touted with a move to North London, but it is believed Bruno has been offered a much larger wage at Newcastle – and is keen on a move. Amanda Staveley held a transfer meeting on Monday.
Bruno to Newcastle: An enormous midfield coup for Howe’s side
Bruno is a Brazil international. Newcastle fans, six months ago, would have been dreaming of a current Brazil international to be joining the club – but the midfielder is now seemingly set on a move to Tyneside this month.
He is a player of supreme quality, one that Houssem Aouar has once declared he is in love with. Bruno massively improves Newcastle midfield options, adding both bite but technical quality in defensive midfield.
