According to L’Equipe, Bruno Guimaraes had a fight with Jerome Boateng at Lyon before his £40m move to Newcastle in January.
What’s the story?
Well, the print version of L’Equipe (via Get French Football News) believe the 24-year-old came to blows with Boateng before joining the Magpies, after the Brazilian made a comment about the German.
The confrontation happened a few weeks ago according to the report, and had to be broken up by several people.
In our view, the tensions can’t have been caused by results on the field, as Guimaraes was not actually involved in a loss for Lyon during January.
The Brazil international faced Paris Saint-Germain, Troyes and Saint-Etienne in January before joining Newcastle, drawing the first whilst winning the other two.
Guimaraes even provided the assist in the 1-1 draw with PSG.
Newcastle shouldn’t worry about Bruno Guimaraes incident

When first reading this, some Newcastle fans may have been concerned that Guimaraes is a bad apple who causes dressing room issues.
However, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
By the sounds of the alleged incident, the antagonist is Boateng.
According to L’Equipe, the 33-year-old also shouted at Léo Dubois during a loss to Rennes, as well as singling out Rayan Cherki after the game.

Boateng also tried to discuss tactics with Peter Bosz after Saturday’s defeat to Monaco, but the Dutchman cut the conversation short and now looks to have started freezing him out.
Hopefully, nothing similar happens at Newcastle involving Guimaraes, especially when Eddie Howe needs everyone pulling in the same direction.
