Report: 23-year-old Arsenal player now very likely to leave at the end of the season

According to BILD, Konstantinos Mavropanos is now very likely to leave Arsenal at the end of the season and join VfB Stuttgart permanently.

What’s the story?

Well, the 23-year-old is currently on loan with the Bundesliga side, where he also spent the 2020/21 campaign.

BILD explain how the £1.8m Arsene Wenger signing has become a fan favourite at VfB Stuttgart, due to some excellent displays.

Additionally, the German news outlet reveal that VfB Stuttgart – who employ ex-Arsenal transfer chief Sven Mislintat – have already decided they want to keep Mavropanos.

The German outfit have an option to buy the 4-cap Greece international for just €3m (£2.6m), so there shouldn’t be any issues in purchasing the centre-back.

All VfB Stuttgart have to do is ensure Mavropanos stays injury free.

BILD say that a period of troublesome injuries could threaten any permanent deal.

What were Arsenal thinking with Mavropanos?

From our point of view, we can’t understand why Arsenal allowed VfB Stuttgart to have the option to buy the defender for such a low price.

Arsenal will receive just £2.6m if Mavropanos does join the Bundesliga side permanently, netting the Gunners just £800,000 in profit.

Since signing him in 2018, the north Londoners have probably paid the Greek colossus that much in wages anyway.

It was truly a bizarre decision to include the £2.6m purchase option.

For example, let’s say Mavropanos absolutely shone in Germany this season, and attracted the interest of Bayern Munich and others.

A bidding war could’ve broken out. However, there’s no chance of such a thing happening with VfB Stuttgart holding their purchase option.
