Leeds United star Illan Meslier is reportedly on Didier Deschamps watch list for a senior France call-up in the future.
According to L’Equipe, the 21-year-old shot-stopper is ‘on the radar’ for Les Bleus. However, Meslier has missed out on a call-up this month for France’s international fixtures for November.
The Leeds keeper has been a regular for France at youth level. With Meslier, who reportedly earns £22,000-a-week, the current number one for the U-21s. But, even with AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan out with a long-term injury, the Premier League ace has not been chosen by Deschamps.
Instead, Alphonse Areola will replace the Serie A star, with Meslier again taking his place in France’s U-21 squad. The keeper will likely start for the European powerhouses against Armenia and North Macedonia.
With the next international break not until March, Meslier could have a shot of making the France squad when the time comes. With the youngster Leeds undisputed number one, only the form of the youngster will determine if Deschamps calls up the 21-year-old.
Indeed, Meslier could well be the next Leeds star to play for a major international force. Raphinha has this season broken into the Brazil squad, with the winger dazzling for the South American giants in the October break.
Meslier playing for France is a matter of ‘when’, not ‘if’

At 21, Meslier is one of the youngest keepers playing regular football in one of Europe’s top-five leagues. And the Leeds star one day being selected for France is no doubt of question when it will happen rather than if it will.
The Elland Road hero has been one of Leeds’ most consistent performers since their return to the Premier League. And Meslier is certain to get a chance at international level for France if he continues his impressive form between the sticks.
