According to Massimo Brambati, Carlo Ancelotti has advised Gian Piero Gasperini to take the Tottenham job after contact was made.
The football agent, who was speaking on Tutto Mercato Web Radio, said: “Tottenham and Munich contacted him. At Atalanta he found the ideal environment, but going to London might be worth more.
“I know he spoke to Ancelotti, who advised him to go there, his football would be exalted. For what he did at Atalanta is strange to me that he still hasn’t had the chance to make the big leap.”
In our view, there are many positives that point to this being a successful appointment for Spurs.
Gasperini has transformed Atalanta from a relegation-threatened outfit, to a side competing in the latter stages of the Champions League.
His Atalanta side reached the Champions League quarter-final last season after recording a stunning 8-4 aggregate win over Valencia.
There is simply no denying that the Italian – who Jürgen Klopp believes adopts ‘special’ tactics – is a fine coach.
He has overseen 300 wins from 671 games as a manager, all while adopting an entertaining style using his preferred 3-4-1-2 system.
It is particularly interesting to hear that he contacted Ancelotti after Tottenham reached out to him.
The £221,153-a-week Everton man clearly feels his fellow countryman has what it takes to succeed in England, and his advice should be adhered to.
After all, Ancelotti has won the Premier League and the FA Cup, so he’s a man who knows what it takes to succeed in England.
There is, however, an issue with Gasperini – his English isn’t great.
Corriere della Sera believe that this will be an insurmountable barrier in Gasperini’s hopes of replacing José Mourinho in north London.
However, as we saw with Mauricio Pochettino, some managers can survive by using a translator while they attempt to learn the language.
Keep an eye on this saga, as it will be interesting to see if Gasperini takes Ancelotti’s advice.
