It looks like Matteo Guendouzi’s escape route from Arsenal may finally be taking shape.
The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Marseille in recent months.
L’Equipe reported earlier in June that his relationship with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has suffered a ‘total rupture’.
But with Borussia Dortmund throwing their hat in the ring, it put a bit of doubt on his return to Ligue 1.
But La Provence in France has this morning reported that the Arsenal midfielder will be a Marseille player by early next week.
The report adds that the North Londoners are looking for around £17 million for the player, whom they signed from Lorient for £8 million three years ago.
Broken relationship
Following on from the Arteta report about their relationship, the writing has looked on the wall for Guendouzi at Arsenal for about a year.
It is 12 months since he grabbed Neal Maupay by the throat following a defeat at Brighton last June during Project Restart.
The Daily Mail reported that the Frenchman was exiled by the Arsenal boss afterwards, following reports that he goaded Maupay about his salary and bragged that he made more money than him.
Remember, there were also reports of unrest with Guendouzi – who was sent on loan to Hertha Berlin last summer – the previous January amid a reported bust-up with Arteta and Sokratis in Dubai.
Since Arteta took over from Unai Emery, the young midfielder just hasn’t adapted well and it would appear as if he doesn’t have to any longer.
