Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion are among the clubs who failed with bids for the Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The website claims La Real ‘hung up the transferable poster and waited for offers to arrive until the end’ of the summer transfer window.
But it adds that ‘no firm or convincing one arrived either for him or for the club’, who had hoped to replace the Brazilian with the Sevilla striker Carlos Fernandez.
Sevilla, incidentally, are one of the clubs who offered to take Jose on loan, alongside Tottenham, West Brom and Marseille.
But the 28-year-old rejected each of those proposals because, while he was willing to leave, he did not want a temporary move, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The website adds that Jose would have joined Sevilla, Marseille or Tottenham – who bid €20 million (around £18.1m) – on permanent transfers, but seemingly not West Brom.
Tottenham ended their long-running striker search last week, signing Carlos Vinicius on loan from Benfica.

In contrast, West Brom’s pursuit remains ongoing, with the Baggies now only able to recruit from EFL clubs.
Tottenham had been willing to offer up to €25m (around £22.8m) for Jose, according to Calciomercato.
