According to a report from CalcioMercato, AC Milan have Schalke’s Ozan Kabak high on their wish list ahead of the January transfer window.
The Turkish defender is one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young defenders. He is a target of a number of top clubs across Europe, including defending Premier League champions Liverpool.
The Mirror claimed last month that Jurgen Klopp’s side had opened talks with Schalke over a £20 million deal for Kabak. The 20-year-old is being viewed as a replacement to Virgil van Dijk who suffered a terrible injury in the Merseyside derby against Everton.
The Dutchman is expected to miss a large chunk of the season. He is undoubtedly Liverpool’s most important player, and his absence could derail the Reds’ pursuit of another Premier League title.
As a result, Liverpool are in the market for a new central defender, and Kabak is one of many they are looking at. CalcioMercato claim that Klopp’s men have been in contact with Schalke and Kabak’s representatives for several weeks, but AC Milan could beat them to his signature.

The report claims Kabak is the Rossoneri’s top defensive target. The Turk’s value has dropped from £31.1 million to £22.4 million, and the report claims that price could go down further due to Schalke’s current financial problems.
Liverpool are very much in the race but so are Milan, who seem really interested in the young defender if the report is to be believed.
If Klopp really wants Kabak in January, the Reds will have to move quickly or the Italian giants will jump ahead of them in the race to secure his signature in the coming weeks.
