Report: 21-year-old wants to join Crystal Palace but Eagles won’t meet price tag

Flynn Downes wants to join Crystal Palace before Monday’s transfer deadline but the Premier League outfit are struggling to agree a fee with Ipswich Town, according to The Telegraph.

Just because you’ve handed in a transfer request doesn’t mean your employers have to accept any old offer.

Downes found that out in August when he attempted to move away from an Ipswich side that finished 12th in the third tier of English football last season.

Understandably, a chance to play Premier League football under former England boss Roy Hodgson appeals to the Essex-born 21-year-old.

But if Palace are serious about signing another one of the Football League’s most talented youngsters, after snapping up Nathan Ferguson and Eberechi Eze, they will have to at least double their initial £2 million offer, according to the Standard.

“We have received two bids for Flynn over the last week or two but they are nowhere near the club’s valuation,” Ipswich Town general manager of football operations Dan O’Neill told the East Anglian Daily Times.

“Marcus (Evans, Ipswich owner) rejected them straight away.

“Every player strives to play at the highest level and Flynn is no different. We fully understand why a move to the Premier League would appeal to him but, until the club receives an offer that meets its valuation, there is no decision to make.”

The Standard claims that a month into talks, Crystal Palace and Ipswich remain poles apart in their valuation of a gifted midfielder brilliantly nicknamed Flynedine Zidownes by the Portman Road faithful.

Ipswich boss Paul Lambert dropped Downes from his squad for the 2-0 opening day win at Wigan, saying his head had been turned.

But the Ipswich academy graduate featured in the recent wins over Bristol Rovers and Rochdale.
