Liverpool are set to open talks to extend Jordan Henderson’s contract, according to a report.

It has been 10 years since Liverpool paid Sunderland £20 million for Henderson’s services (BBC Sport) and what a servant he has been for the club.

The Mirror claim that with the 31-year old entering the final two years of his current contract, they are looking to tie down his future, which could see him end his career at Liverpool.

And in truth, it would be fitting if he does kick his final ball in the colours of the Merseyside giants.

When Henderson first arrived at Anfield, he struggled to win over the crowd and the shadow of the great Steven Gerrard didn’t help matters.

But Gerrard’s departure and Jurgen Klopp’s arrival resulted in the Englishman transform himself into one of the most important figures in the club’s recent history.

Whether Henderson left tomorrow or he retired at the club, he will forever be a legend for being the first captain to lift the English league title in 30 years.

Not forgetting that famous night in Madrid that saw Liverpool bring home number six.

The report does state that Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of Henderson’s for both his character on and off the field of play.

If any Liverpool epitomised Klopp’s all-action and aggressive style out on the pitch then it would be Henderson every day of the week.

But retirement shouldn’t be anywhere near Henderson’s thoughts because the highly-demanding midfielder has plenty of petrol left in his tank.
