According to Record, Rafa Silva – who Newcastle wanted in 2021 – is now keen on a move to the Premier League, with Wolves interested in him.

What’s the story?

Well, the Benfica forward has been on fire this season – it’s no wonder Newcastle and Wolves have expressed an interest in his services.

It was the Mirror who claimed that Silva was Newcastle’s top target in the summer of 2021, although a deal never materialised.

Now, Jeunes Footeux believe Wolves are keen to sign him, and they’ll be encouraged to hear his stance on a move to England.

However, the Portugal international won’t come cheap.

Record believe Benfica want €50m (£41m) for their No.27, who Bruno Lage is hoping to sign as a replacement for Adama Traore.

So far this season, Silva has impressively scored 11 goals while also providing 17 assists in 38 appearances.

Newcastle must work hard to fend off Wolves

Usually, we’d be saying the opposite after Newcastle were taken over by wealthy Saudi Arabian owners.

However, Wolves have very, very strong connections in Portugal, as well as close ties with Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes.

It has seen them sign Portugal internationals such as the likes of Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves, Rui Patricio and Joao Moutinho in recent years.

Their connections extend to those who aren’t Portuguese, but were playing in Portugal’s top-flight, such as Raul Jimenez who arrived from Benfica.

In our view, Newcastle will have to throw their newfound wealth at Silva if they are to beat Wolves to his signature.

Keep an eye on this saga, as only time will tell where the 28-year-old ends up.
