Talks between a summer Rangers target and his current employers are no longer thought to be ongoing.
The Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram was strongly linked with a move to Rangers before Steven Gerrard’s side signed Bongani Zungu on loan from Amiens.
But Lundstram is in the final year of his contract at Bramall Lane and can enter discussions with clubs outside of England from January regarding a pre-contract agreement.
The Star reports that United opened talks with the 26-year-old, a self-confessed admirer of the Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, ‘around 12 months ago’.
And his current boss Chris Wilder has confirmed that a ‘take it or leave it offer’ has been made.
But according to the Sheffield-based paper, the Blades’ executives ‘have been instructed not to withdraw the proposal’, with Lundstram informed ‘he can still accept the package of benefits presented to him during the close season – which is believed to include a new long term deal and improved salary – at any time’.

Whether or not Rangers have retained an interest in Lundstram remains is not currently clear.
The Gers are well-stocked in the Liverpudlian’s position, although Steven Davis is himself out of contract next summer – before which Gerrard must decide if he’ll take up an option to turn Zungu’s deal permanent.
Zungu has yet to make his Rangers debut after being forced to self-isolate following his move.
