According to Peterborough Today, Rangers have scouted Siriki Dembele, while Newcastle’s Steve Bruce has also watched the forward.

However, Peterborough’s intention is to keep the attacker for the rest of the season in the hope he can fire them to promotion, making a January exit unlikely.

The report mentions that Celtic, Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Stoke City have all been linked with the League One talent too.

Dembele has 18 months left on his contract with the Posh, and Peterborough are under no pressure to sell the exciting attacker.

The League One outfit’s Director of Football Barry Fry confirmed that the Scottish giants and Newcastle had watched the 24-year-old.

Peterborough Today quote him as saying: ‘Rangers have watched Siriki twice as have the Scottish national side. Newcastle manager Steve Bruce watched him at Crewe when he didn’t play well.’

Peterborough co-owner Darragh MacAnthony also commented on Dembele, calling him a ‘phenom’ when speaking on the ‘Hard Truth’ podcast.

In quotes provided by Peterborough Today, MacAnthony said: ‘Statistically Siriki is the best player in League One. He could do with more goals, but he’s a talent, a phenom who will put bums on seats for sure.’

Darren Ferguson’s side bought the mesmeric forward for just £200,000 in July 2018 when signing him from Grimsby.

So far this season, Dembele has five goals and four assists in 16 League One starts.

As WhoScored shows, the Peterborough No.10 records an impressive 3.3 dribbles per game in League One this season.

Dembele is also fouled 3.6 times per game, highlighting just how much of a tricky customer this dazzling forward is.

If either Rangers or Newcastle manage to sign him, it will certainly be interesting to see how he deals with the step up.
