According to Record, Sérgio Oliveira is waiting for Tottenham to sign him.

What’s the story?

Well, the 29-year-old was close to being sold to Fiorentina.

However, the sudden departure of Gennaro Gattuso saw his move to Italy crumble, with that door now all but closed.

As a result, Record say that a move to Tottenham could be a fitting solution to that disappointment.

Oliveira – who is currently away with Portugal at EURO 2020 – is said to be waiting for the north Londoners to make an approach.

Whether one will arrive remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t surprise us if Tottenham did get in contact after his stunning 2020/21 campaign.

The 12-cap Portugal international impressively scored 20 goals in all competitions for FC Porto last season in 48 appearances.

Oliveira’s haul included two goals against Juventus in the Champions League last 16, which helped FC Porto reach the quarter-finals.

What about Tanguy Ndombele?

Before Tottenham even think about signing another midfielder, they have to ensure Tanguy Ndombele becomes a regular starter.

The Frenchman shone under José Mourinho at the start of the season, catching the eye with his dribbling skills and ability to escape pressure.

However, for whatever reason, he wasn’t fancied under Ryan Mason.

Ndombele was left out of the Carabao Cup final, and only started one game under Mason.

That’s not to mention Giovani Lo Celso, who is also a fantastic option, but one who just needs to keep himself fit.

Signing another midfielder, when Spurs have these two as well as Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, just seems unnecessary in our view.
