Alisson and Fabinho were reportedly absent from Liverpool training on Friday evening.

Liverpool are gearing up for an FA Cup encounter with Cardiff City at Anfield tomorrow afternoon.

However, two senior members of Jurgen Klopp’s outfit weren’t present.

According to The Echo, goalkeeper Alisson and midfielder Fabinho did not train at Kirkby ahead of the game.

The report adds that the duo might have been afforded some time off after representing Brazil in some recent World Cup qualifiers.

Bigger miss

Fabinho might be a bigger miss for the Merseysiders.

Alisson, a £66 million signing in 2018, is undeniably a world-class goalkeeper but, having said that, Liverpool have a very capable deputy in the form of Caoimhin Kelleher.

The young Irishman is second in Klopp’s pecking order of shot-stoppers and he’ll certainly fancy his chances against the Bluesbirds, who are in the Championship.

The South American midfielder, on the other hand, is a different situation.

With Naby Keita possibly needed an additional break after Africa Cup of Nations, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain playing out wide and Thiago and Harvey Elliott still absent, the German manager isn’t flush with midfield options.

And for that reason, Fabinho, who joined Liverpool from Monaco in 2018, might well be a bigger miss.
