According to the Evening Standard, it doesn’t sound as if Scott Dann has any intention of staying at Crystal Palace.

What’s the story?

Well, the Eagles now have 11 players out of contract after June came to a close.

One of those is Dann, who has been with the south Londoners since January 2014 after arriving from Blackburn Rovers in a £2.6 million deal.

The Evening Standard believe the 34-year-old is now planning for life after Crystal Palace, and is considering offers from elsewhere.

Sad to see him go, but entirely necessary

In truth, it’s sad to see Dann leave SE25.

At one point, the former Birmingham centre-back was playing so well that many among the Selhurst Park faithful called for England recognition.

In particular, Dann was phenomenal in 2015/16, scoring five Premier League goals on his way to becoming club captain.

Signed during uncertain times under Tony Pulis, Crystal Palace’s former No.6 has watched the club grow into a stable, top-flight outfit.

Much of that has been down to his efforts – he’s been a tremendous servant to the Eagles, and it’s heartbreaking that he wasn’t afforded a proper send off.

However, at 34, his departure is necessary.

Now, Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman must find a fresh, long-term replacement, who will hopefully replicate Dann’s legacy.
