Reported Nottingham Forest and West Brom target Mathieu Peybernes has no future at Almeria with his departure expected to be announced in the coming days, according to Marca.
If the Baggies were a little better at the back, they would not have had to wait until the final day of a gruelling Championship campaign to secure their promotion.
West Brom finished second behind Leeds United but conceded ten more goals than Marcelo Bielsa’s watertight side in 2019/20.
So if the Midland giants are to avoid bouncing immediately back into the second tier, then they have little choice but to strengthen a back line that has made its fair share of blunders in recent times.
Fortunately, a 29-year-old Frenchman has already made it clear that playing in England is a ‘dream’ (GFFN).
After shining on loan at Lugo, winning the Fans’ Player of the Year award and saving the second-tier club from relegation, Peybernes has emerged on the radar of West Brom, according to Marca in July.

Marca add that Nottingham Forest and Swansea City are also interested in a 29-year-old centre-back who has a £2.5 million release clause in his contract.
Peybernes’ parent club have something in common with Forest and the Swans. Despite splashing the cash last summer, a Saudi-backed Almeria side missed out on promotion after falling in the play-offs.
But, if reports are to be believed, Peybernes will not stick around to help make their La Liga dream a reality.
He has no future at Almeria and will be sold sooner rather than later, with an overachieving Getafe side currently leading the chase for his signature.
