Odsonne Edouard is reportedly toying with the idea of running down his contract with Celtic should the French striker fail to move on from the Scottish giants this summer.

According to Wednesday’s print edition of the Daily Mail (p76: 11/08), the 23-year-old attacker is ‘considering’ letting his deal with the Hoops run out.

Edouard’s contract expires next summer, and the striker is eager to move on from Celtic this window.

Edouard has been one of Celtic’s best performing players since his permanent move to the club in 2018. The attacker has currently scored 84 goals and assisted 30 during his time in Glasgow.

But with Premier League interest in the former PSG striker this window, Edouard thinks he is ready for the leap to a bigger division. However, a lack of bids this summer means that the Frenchman could remain in Glasgow.

With the striker earning a reported £19,000-a-week according to Salary Sport, Edouard is one of Celtic’s top earners.

However, there is no question that Ange Postecoglou will be eager to earn some profit from the 23-year-old forward this window.

Indeed, with Eurosport reporting in March that Celtic are looking for £20m for their star striker, Edouard’s price tag could make it difficult for clubs to sign the attacker this window given the financial health of most football clubs in a COVID-19 world.

There’s no doubt that Celtic can sell on Edouard this window. But the Hoops might have to bite the bullet this summer and try and get some funds for the striker rather than risk losing him for free next year.
