Michael Cuisance bid farewell to his Bayern Munich team-mates this morning as the Frenchman closes in on an £18 million move to Leeds United, according to Sport1.

There’s more to the beautiful game than spreadsheets and net profits, of course, but from a financial perspective Bayern’s decision to cash in on a man they bought last summer looks inspired.

After all, Cuisance has started only four Bundesliga games for Hansi Flick’s treble-winners since arriving from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2019.

And, after just 13 months and 321 minutes of league football, Bayern are set to double their money on a man who never came close to ousting the likes of Leon Goretzka or Thomas Muller from Flick’s star-studded starting XI.

The Guardian reports Leeds will pay £18 million for Cuisance while handing him a five-year contract.

The former France U20 international said goodbye to Robert Lewandowski, Joshua Kimmich and co at training this morning as he prepares to swap Saberner Strasse for Thorpe Arch.

There’s no doubting Cuisance’s talents but, at £18 million, Leeds are paying for potential rather than proven, top-level talent.

The 21-year-old wasn’t even a first-team regular at Gladbach, starting just one league game in 2018/19 before making a shock move to Bayern.

Cuisance has a lot to prove in West Yorkshire. Fortunately, Leeds have a coach who is one of the best around when it comes to helping young players realise their potential.
