The Gers are reportedly hoping to sign the 31-year-old free agent defender after seeing a move for Aston Villa’s Joleon Lescott fall through last week.

Rangers could face late competition from 2. Bundesliga side TSV 1860 Munich in their bid to sign Philippe Senderos, according to German outlet Bild.
Senderos, who has been a free agent since leaving Grasshopper Club Zurich earlier this summer, spent most of last week training with Rangers and left a positive impression on manager Mark Warburton.
The Scottish Premiership side’s first option to fill their need at centre-back had been Aston Villa outcast Joleon Lescott, but a deal for the ex-England international collapsed at the last minute.
They are now reportedly ready to commit to Senderos as an alternative, with the 31-year-old Swiss defender already rumoured to be flying back to Glagow ahead of signing a two-year deal at Ibrox [h/t The Scottish Sun].
“I can’t speak highly enough of Philippe,” Warburton told Sky Sports on Friday. “He hadn’t been training with a team for a few weeks, so his level of fitness is outstanding.
“His CV is well documented, but his level of fitness, the way he has fitted into the group has been first class. He has dealt with training effortlessly all week so we have to look at a number of options and I have been very impressed by Philippe.”

According to Bild, though, 1860 Munich could be set to scupper Rangers’ reported plans with a last-minute approach for Senderos.
The German second-tier side are believed to have the former Arsenal man on a shortlist of defensive targets, but they are also reportedly considering a loan move for Chelsea youngster Matt Miazga.

Prior to spending the second half of last season with Grasshoppers, Senderos had been frozen out of the first-team picture at Aston Villa for an extended period after a series of injuries saw him fall down the centre-back pecking order.
The 57-times capped Swiss made a positive start to his claret and blue career after joining the club on a free transfer on June 2014, making nine appearances over the first few months of his debut campaign, but he failed to feature for then-Premier League side again after picking up a calf problem in November 2014 that ended up ruling him out of action for the next five months.
He was eventually released by the West Midlands outfit last January and subsequently linked up with Grasshoppers, before going on to make 14 Swiss Super League appearances over the remainder of the season.
