According to Tutto Mercato Web, Stefan de Vrij would welcome a move to the Premier League, with Tottenham and Everton said to be interested.
What’s the story?
Well, it was the Northern Echo who revealed that the Dutchman’s agent had been in touch with a number of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle.
De Vrij – who was named Serie A Defender of the Year in 2020 – is now said to be open to moving to England, providing a boost to Spurs and Everton.
The 29-year-old’s contract expires in June 2023, although Inter Milan are currently struggling to agree a new deal with their No.6.
As a result, they are open to offers for De Vrij, before the contract situation causes his value to plummet.
According to Calciomercato, the Italian giants would consider a £17m bid from clubs hoping to lure the defender away from the San Siro.
So far this season, the 55-cap Netherlands international has proven to be a vital player for Inter Milan, making 18 appearances in all competitions.
Everton should be wary of Tottenham
If Everton want to sign De Vrij, we presume they’ll have to do something special.
Why? Well, the towering centre-back helped Inter Milan win the Serie A title last season with Antonio Conte at the helm.
He also won his aforementioned Defender of the Year award under the Spurs boss.
In total, De Vrij has made 88 appearances under Conte’s guidance, where he came within an inch of winning the Europa League to go alongside his Serie A medal.
Such successful times under Conte’s management will not have been forgotten by De Vrij.
Therefore, we feel it’s safe to assume he’d be more in favour of a reunion in north London than a venture into the unknown with Rafa Benitez.
