The Guardian have published the latest edition of their ‘next generation’ list where they try to pick out a future star from every Premier League club, and it sounds as though Leeds United have a teenage gem coming through.
Indeed, the Guardian report that 17-year-old Cian Coleman is extremely highly rated at Elland Road, with the teenager being seen as a potential ‘new Kalvin Phillips’.
We all know just how good Phillips has become since graduating from Leeds’ academy. He’s now a fully-fledged England international and arguably one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League.
Coleman seems to be of a similar ilk. Much like Phillips, he’s a midfielder, and just like the Yorkshire Pirlo, he can also fill in at centre-back if need be.
Where Coleman ends up playing once he makes the switch to senior football remains to be seen, but that sort of versatility certainly bodes well for his future.
Marcelo Bielsa has never been shy to hand out chances to young players at Elland Road, and Coleman has reportedly caught the Argentine’s eye, so it may not be long before we see him lining up in a white shirt.
Coleman is a local lad, being born in Pudsey, and if he follows in the footsteps of the Yorkshire Pirlo, it may not be long before the Elland Road faithful have a new fan favourite.
Fingers crossed this young man can go on to fulfil his seemingly massive potential.
